Support Services Partnership South West London / Sutton & Merton Primary Care Trust - Relocation of a Temporary Clinic Facility

Health Sector

Services: Cost Consultancy

The Support Services Partnership (SSP) South West London is a non-profit making NHS shared services organisation. Set up in 2002, it provides management support for estates, facilities, major capital projects, primary care support and supplies services to the five Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) in the South West London sector.

Project Description:

The project comprised the dismantling of 22 nr existing modular units (approximately 5,000 ft2) from an existing site. This involved the stripping out of all existing fixtures and fittings, removing them into storage, refurbishing the existing units for structural and weather proof integrity, then transporting them back to the new location and forming in a single storey complex.

The ground works at the new location included excavation and earthworks, screw piled foundation and a ground bearing slab. The units were then fitted out on site to suit the new design layout of the clinic, which has been designed in consultation with the Sutton and Merton PCT. The fit out will be in accordance with NHS Infection Control in the Built Environment and this is specifically referred to in the tender documents.  Other associated external works include extensive landscaping, drainage, grasscrete concrete block paviour surfacing, white lining, signage, bollards, flagstone paving as well as all including all electrical, water, heating, telephone and IT installations.

Key Challenges:

  • Building a temporary facility in an existing working hospital.
  • Cost and programme paramount in public sector.

Form of Contract: JCT Standard Form of Building Contract with Construction Design.
