Peterborough City Council - The Riverside Community Sports Pavilion, Peterborough

Peterborough City Council is a unitary authority providing all local government services to the people of Peterborough and the surrounding area.
Their objective is to be a council that provides a quality of service that genuinely contributes to making Peterborough the place to be in the Eastern region.
A key vision is to plan and deliver a safe, attractive and environmentally friendly city.
Project Description:
The Riverside Sports Pavilion is a new, single storey development for public use based on a gross nternal floor area of 500m2. The building consists of:
- Four shower changing rooms
- Community hall with bar and kitchen
- Associated external works
- Mains services and drainage
Site infrastructure works are provided under an S106 agreement including; site services to within one meter of the building, access road with floodlit car park for approx 50 cars, two football pitches, a floodlit mulit use games area pitch and perimeter fencing.
Value Engineering was carried out at design stages, reducing construction costs to a suitable level that was accepted by the client.
The project was completed on time and under budget.
Sustainability:
- Early design proposals offered sustainable features such as a wind turbine, photovoltaic cells and rainwater harvesting. After investigation, these proved economically unviable from the fixed budget available from the Section 106 funding.
Key Challenges:
- Changes in key personnel including Project Manager and Architect
- Finite budget from Section 106 contribution.
- Delayed completion of Section 106 works by the developer.
