Hanover Housing Association is a leading specialist as a provider of retirement housing and related services. They manage almost 19,000 high quality mixed tenure Retirement and Extra Care properties on more than 600 estates and operate in over 175 local authority areas across England and Wales.
Project Description:
The Helen Court Witham development consists of a 55 flat (40
one bed and 15 two bed) Extra Care scheme with associated communal
facilities and external works. The project was developed on the
site of an existing residential care home in a residential area.
The construction of the new development necessitated the provision
of a new resident parking area and link road to the sport
field/pavilion. The design offers residents private and communal
space whilst maximizing the sites' potential. The development
went on to be shortlisted for the RICS (East) Regeneration Award
2011.
Sustainability:
- BREEAM multi-residential rating "Very Good".
- Wood pellet fuelled Biomass boiler.
- Pitched Sedum roof.
Key Challenges:
- Incorporating the requirements of all stakeholders, including the local residents and sports clubs.
- Restricted access into the site.
- Managing neighbour relations in a residential area.
