Services: Employer's Agent, Development Management

ASDA is a British supermarket chain offering an excellent mix of fresh food, grocery, clothing, home, leisure and entertainment goods.  They have over 170,000 dedicated ASDA colleagues in more than 500 stores, 23 depots and 8 recycling centres across the country.

Project Description:

Under a framework agreement, Henry Riley is employed as Project Manager, Employer's Agent and Development Manager. From our initial involvement in 2005, we have been employed on a variety of new build, extension and refurbishment projects within the North and South of England.

To date we have been involved with:

  • 18 New Build
  • 11 Extensions
  • 17 Remodels
  • 5 Acquisitions

We have extensive experience in retail and provide appropriate focus to ASDA when facing any operational issues associated with these projects.  By challenging the project scope in pursuit of solutions that strip away costs that add no value, we work hard at reducing and/or eliminating client risk.

Achievements:

Low Carbon Store

ASDA has made firm commitments to reduce carbon emissions and improve energy efficiency in a sustained way, in both existing and new stores. We were proud to work with ASDA as project manager on its first 'green' store which opened in October 2007 in, Shaw, Oldham as well as their first 'Low Carbon' Store in Bootle which opened in November 2008.

Performance

Henry Riley have consistently achieved and bettered ASDA's own KPI targets from the very start of our working relationship.  The online KPI system enables consultants and contractors to score and comment on each other's performance, quality and delivery, providing the Design Team with invaluable information for future projects.

CIG Member

Henry Riley is an active member of ASDA's Continuous Improvement Group (CIG). The group was established to provide a forum for key consultants as well as Senior ASDA personnel to share learnings, discuss opportunities and improve on existing processes.

Acquisitions

As part of an expansion programme beginning early 2010 ASDA began acquiring a number of existing properties. Henry Riley is proud to be appointed as one of the two Project Management firms to take up the challenge of converting the stores to ASDA's format.

Development Manager

As of 2010 Henry Riley has been appointed to the role of Development Manager to investigate the feasibility of constructing new stores at numerous sites across the UK.
